Oishii – The Most Popular of Del.icio.us

July 23, 2005

I’ve been using and blogging about del.icio.us for nearly a year now. Often, I’ll just poll the front page for what’s popular at the moment. Now it seems someone’s put together a tool to automate it. (Why didn’t I think of that?! )

One of the main purposes of social bookmarking systems is allowing people to see what other people are bookmarking. I frequently find things that people are linking to very interesting, and thought it would be nice to slap together a system that could tell me, automatically, what lots of other people have just bookmarked. Thus, oishii was born. Oishii is kind of a del.icio.us mini-zeitgeist. oishii polls the del.icio.us front page every 5 minutes, and returns all sites bookmarked by at least 30 people. In the spirit of facilitating self-organization, oishii is a kind of pheromone trail allowing me and others to find the resources other members of the hive found useful, interesting, humorous, or for some other reason worth visiting again.
